What helps a website show up in AI search results? Learn how clear content, real expertise, strong SEO and online credibility can improve AI visibility.

Did you hear that AI is changing how people search online?!?!?!?!?! Of course you did. AI is everywhere right now. But no need to panic. Although AI is changing how people find businesses online, it doesn’t mean you need to completely rethink your website or become an AI expert. In fact, many of the things that have traditionally made a good website GOOD are exactly what AI is looking for.

So, what actually helps your website show up in AI search results?

First, AI needs to understand what you do

This sounds obvious, but it’s a big one. Your website needs to clearly explain your business instead of making visitors, search engines or AI figure it out. Make sure your website clearly communicates:

  • What your business does
  • Who you serve
  • Where you work
  • What services or products you offer
  • What makes your company knowledgeable about those services

For example, a general page called Manufacturing Solutions isn’t nearly as useful as individual pages explaining exactly what you manufacture, how you do it and who you manufacture it for. Being thorough can be helpful.

Answer real questions

AI search is very conversational. People aren’t just searching “web designer Appleton.” They’re asking complete questions such as:

  • How much should a business website cost?
  • Should my company redesign its website?
  • What should I look for in a web design company?

This makes FAQs, blog articles and educational content increasingly valuable. Think about the questions customers ask your sales team every week. Those are probably questions worth answering on your website.

Show that YOU actually know your stuff

AI doesn’t need another website repeating the same generic information found on 500 other websites – in a lot of cases, generated by AI. Case studies, project examples, original insights, detailed service information and first-hand experience give your website something more substantial to offer. This is also where your company’s real-world experience becomes important. AI can help write content. It can’t manufacture 20 years of experience – at least not yet…

Make your business easy to verify

Your website isn’t the only place AI can learn about your business. Your Google Business Profile, industry directories, professional organizations, news articles, customer reviews and other reputable websites can reinforce who you are and what you do.

Consistency matters. Your company name, services, location and other basic information shouldn’t tell a different story depending on where AI finds you.

Don’t ignore the technical stuff

You don’t need to become a developer to make your website AI-friendly, but the foundation definitely matters. Your site should be fast, mobile-friendly, secure and easy for search engines to crawl. Proper headings, page titles, internal links and structured data like schema markup can also make your content easier for machines to understand. Think of it as putting labels on the boxes before asking AI to find them.

SEO isn’t dead. It’s just getting a little smarter.

The good news is that you don’t need a completely separate strategy for AI. Many of the same things that help with traditional SEO also help with AI visibility: clear content, useful information, a technically healthy website and a strong presence around the web.

The biggest change is that being visible online is no longer just about ranking #1 on Google. Your business can now appear in search results, maps, AI summaries, ChatGPT responses and other places people are looking for answers.

So keep it simple. Be clear. Be useful. Be credible. Make it easy for people, search engines and AI to understand who you are, what you do and why you’re worth mentioning.
